The application performance of stainless steel such as 316 and 304
28th of November ,2023

Both 316 and 308 stainless steel have their practical applications. There are only slight differences between these two stainless steels. 316 stainless steel is often used in steel and is often exposed to humid marine environments. It is also used for food and beverage processing and chemical processing.

308 stainless steel is often used in restaurants and winemaking equipment, chemical tanks and welding wire manufacturing. 316 stainless steel contains about 17 % chromium and 12.5 % nickel. 308 stainless steel usually contains about 20 % chromium and average 11 % nickel. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which improves the corrosion resistance of steel. 308 stainless steel is the second largest type of stainless steel, which is usually used for welding 304 stainless steel. This is the most common steel species.

302 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel are designed for different applications. These stainless steel consist of the same material, but they contain different numbers of materials.

The chromium content is slightly lower than the corresponding object, 302 stainless steel from 0.15 % carbon, 17 % to 19 % chromium, 8 % to 10 % nickel, 2 % manganese, 1 % silicon, 0.03 % sulfur, 04 % 04 % Phosphorus. Contains manganese, silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus as 302 stainless steel. 304 stainless steel contains up to 0.08 % carbon, 19 % to 20 % chromium and 8 % to 12 % nickel.

Generally use 302 stainless steel is designed to have higher corrosion resistance than 301 stainless steel. Made with a lower percentage of carbon, 304 stainless steel is designed to limit the precipitation of carbonizes. This stainless steel is often used in high temperature applications.

The density of 302 and 304 stainless steel is 0.29 pounds per cubic inch. The tensile strength of 302 and 304 stainless steel is 90,000 pounds/square inch (PSI) and 85,000 pound/square inch (PSI). Both types of stainless steel are easy to weld and create very durable welding.
